Apex Legends and Fortnite Battle Royale has majorly two things in common. They both are battle royales and developed by an older version of another game. Fortnite was originally built as a PvE survival game as you would try to pass the given missions with friends or just by yourself. And later on, Epic Games decided to develop a battle royale mode after seeing the success of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. PUBG may have started the initial hype around the battle royale genre but Fortnite was the one who carried to the top positions.
A similar story goes with Apex Legends as well. Respawn Entertainment, the developer company behind Apex Legends used Titanfall 2 as its core to develop the game. Although most of the gameplay is pretty similar, there are so many differences between Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends than Fortnite Battle Royale and the Fortnite PvE.
When it comes to the gameplay, both games are so different than one another. Fortnite consists more of a funky vibed gameplay. Fortnite sticks out with its one of a kind building mechanics. Outside from the information on the loading screens, you are left with no information on how to build. First few games might be a bit hard and often short but once you get the feeling of it, you will realize how much of your own personality comes to life.
Apex Legends offers something unique to the genre just like Fortnite but without any mechanical features. It has different legends/characters as no other battle royale has. So far, there is a total of 9 different legends available to play, each having unique abilities and playstyle. We see Apex Legends focusing more on the gun-play as it makes the gameplay more about combat.
All of these features wouldn’t be fulfilled if we don’t talk about the player base of each game. Most of the Fortnite players seem to be more about having fun in casual manners while the Apex Legends players are playing more competitively, especially on the PC platform. Fortnite boasts its player base with daily and weekly challenges that rotate every so often. Also, Fortnite players can cross-platform play which is a feature that Apex Legends is missing but we have to keep in mind that the game is still relatively new.
Of course, it all depends on the preferences but overall we can say that if your aim in battle royales and gaming is to be more competitive while trying to have fun, Apex Legends should be your go-to. But if you want to purely focus on having fun, trying out new things once in a while and play with a community that has a younger population, Fortnite is can be your choice.
